President Trump said he “didn’t really need Elon Musk” in his administration, but affirmed that he really liked the billionaire.
“Elon Musk has done a great job. Look, he’s sitting here and that’s not what I care about. I don’t need Elon Musk for any reason other than I love him,” US President Donald Trump said during a cabinet meeting at the White House on April 10.
President Trump also recounted the story of buying a Tesla car to show support for billionaire Musk, even though he didn’t need the car and didn’t need a discount.
The White House owner bought a red Tesla Model S last month and praised it as “a great product, Elon Musk devoted all his heart and life to developing”.
The US President continued to affirm that Elon Musk “has done a great job but has not been treated well”. The US billionaire was appointed by Mr. Trump as a special government employee and to lead the Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in the task of reforming and streamlining the government apparatus
Also in the cabinet meeting on April 10, billionaire Musk announced that DOGE will cut nearly $150 billion in spending for fiscal year 2026, which runs from April 1 to March 31, 2026. Mr. Musk’s special government employee position is unpaid and will not work more than 130 days a year.
DOGE is expected to operate until July 4, 2026. However, there are signs that the organization is about to end its term, as DOGE employees have been transferred to different federal agencies. Mr. Trump said that after Musk leaves, the secretaries will take over the work but “DOGE will still operate”.
